SUMMER DRINKS FOR KIDS

Summer is the season of vacation; kids are free from school and homework and spend a full day playing and enjoying summer activities, like swimming and camping. When kids are out in the playground and busy in games they usually forget to drink water, which results in dehydration.The World Health Organization defines dehydration as a condition that results from excessive loss of body water. The common causes of dehydration in kids are vomiting, diarrhoea, excessive sweating and not drinking enough fluids. Infants and small children are much more prone to dehydration than older kids as they lose relatively more fluid quickly and are not able to tell about their thirst. Recipe of Sprouted Mung Bean (Moong Dal) Cheela/ Pancake

We know that preparing and feeding healthy foods everyday is a huge task. Even more tough when kids are picky eaters. Kids prefer certain foods and formats. It is not easy to feed kids bitter Ayurvedic herbs, variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds everyday.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mung bean/ moong dal
  • Salt
  • 1 tsp Ajwain/ Carom seeds

  • 1 pod ginger
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

Wash and soak for 30 min to remove impurities (Why soak?). Add fresh 2 cups water and leave to soak further for 4-5 hours.

Leave the mixture covered with a lid to ferment for few hours or make immediately. Add salt, herb and nut spread, cumin and carom seeds when ready to cook.
Heat iron or non-stick pan. Grease lightly. Spread one big spoon of mixture and spread circular till thin. Cook covered with lid. Flip to cook on other side. Serve with any sauce or plain! (Added health benefits of using iron pan?)
