First aid tips in case of cuts and wounds

Put on the pressure:

Kids’skin is very soft with lots of little blood vessels on the surface, so don’t panic if the wound bleeds heavily. First wash your hands and cover the wound with gauze or a clean towel and press down for 5 to 10 minutes. Keep pressing for a few more minutes even if the bleeding stops. this is the basic step for first aid in case of cuts

Clean the wound:

Once the bleeding has been controlled, clean the wound with a lot of cold water to flush away any small debris and make sure that the dirt is removed. Also clean the surrounding area with mild or non-fragranced soap.

Applying ointment:

Apply an antibacterial ointment on the affected area and put on the bandage. Change the bandage daily or when required. Once the cut seems to be healing you can remove the bandage and leave the area open to heal.  Monitor the wound from time to time for any signs of infection such as redness and drainage.

Protect from sun:

Always make sure to protect your child’s skin from sun, as damaged skin are more likely to get infected and can become discolored due to sun exposure. (How to protect your skin from sun?)
