SUMMER DRINKS FOR KIDS

Summer is the season of vacation and summer drinks; kids are free from school and homework and spend a full day playing and enjoying summer activities, like swimming and camping. When kids are out in the playground and busy in games they usually forget to drink water, which results in dehydration. The World Health Organization defines dehydration as a condition that results from excessive loss of body water. The common causes of dehydration in kids are vomiting, diarrhea, excessive sweating and not drinking enough fluids. Infants and small children are much more prone to dehydration than older kids as they lose relatively more fluid quickly and are not able to tell about their thirst. If your child has fever, diarrhea or vomiting or he/she sweating a lot watch for the signs of dehydration.

SIGNS OF DEHYDRATION IN KIDS

  • Fewer tears when cry
  • Dry mouth and tongue
  • Cracked lips
  • Less or no urination for certain hours
  • Sunken eyes
  • Sleepiness
