WHAT IS FERTILITY WINDOW?

A woman’s ovaries release an egg into the Fallopian tube when she is ovulating. Before travelling to the uterus, the egg spends 24 hours in the Fallopian tube. The prepared uterine lining for pregnancy and the egg dissolve in the absence of sperm, and the result is a monthly cycle.

But when there is sperm present, the egg is fertilised and turns into a zygote, which then adheres to the uterine wall. This zygote develops into an embryo, which later gives rise to a foetus.

Since the egg only survives for one day, the majority of people believe that a woman can become pregnant just once per month. Sperms, however, can survive in the uterus for up to five or six days. Because of this, getting sexually active in the five to seven days prior to ovulation enhances the likelihood of becoming pregnant.

Does Late Ovulation affect a woman’s ability to Conceive?

late ovulation and conceive

Are you a female facing frequent vaginal discharge? Do you find frequent spotting and increased body temperature while sleeping or resting? Do you often feel pain in the lower abdominal area? Yes! These could be the signs of late ovulation. Ovulation and conceive are two different concepts which should not be confused. Read on for information regarding late ovulation, signs, consequences and some home remedies.

WHATSAPP for concerns like Speech Delay, Low Weight, Frequent Illness, Hyperactivity, Low Concentration, Weak Eyesight, Improper Sleep, Pigmentation, Pores, Face Marks, Fine Lines , Lactation etc.

OVULATION

Ovulation is the process where the egg is released from the ovaries and travels down the fallopian tubes, which lasts 21 days. The zygote is implanted into the uterus when the sperm and egg come into contact. As a result, the uterine wall thickens and the term of pregnancy starts. However, fertilisation frequently fails, resulting in the egg being expelled from the uterine lining and causing periods in females.

Mature eggs are released from the ovaries when the luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and progesterone hormones also release. Normally, menstrual periods last 28 days, however ovulation occurs on day 14.

Also check, How does shatavari help to improve fertility?

WHAT IS LATE OVULATION?

Ovulation typically begins on Day 14 of the 28-day menstrual cycle, however it can occasionally be delayed for a variety of reasons. If you ovulate between Day 21 and Day 35, you have a late ovulation. It does not imply infertility, but it does indicate that you are uncertain about the timing of your next menstrual cycle. Ovulation and conceive are interconnected but are two different concepts.

REASONS FOR LATE OVULATION

1. PCOS (PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome):

Overproduction of testosterone is a symptom of PCOS. The ovaries cannot release an egg when there is too much testosterone present. The ovaries are impacted by polycystic ovary syndrome, which changes how they operate.

High amounts of male hormones in females, enlarged ovaries, insulin resistance, weight gain, and irregular menstrual cycles are its hallmarks. Women with PCOS have irregular ovulation and conceive with much difficulty sometimes.

4. Thyroid problems:

Pituitary gland secrete the hormones that prepare a woman for conception and make her fertile. Ovulation issues can result from thyroid conditions like hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, which interfere with this normal process.

5. Drugs/medications:

Certain medications and drugs may prevent or delay ovulation.  Ovulation may be hampered by prolonged use of anti-inflammatory drugs, psychiatric medications, and other addictive substances like cocaine and marijuana.

LATE OVULATION SYMPTOMS

1. Spotting:

When the ovulation is late, some women may also have mild spotting in addition to a shift in the vaginal discharge.

3. Lower abdomen pain:

You may be about to ovulate if you experience pain in the pelvic area or on the sides of your abdomen. Sometimes the pain is intense and one-sided, while other times breakthrough bleeding happens as a result.

Also check, How to reduce period pain?

4. Increase in basal body temperature:

Basal body temperature is the body temperature when you are at rest or asleep. This will intensify after you reach or have entered the ovulation phase. Before getting out of bed, keep an eye on your temperature and chart it to see if you’re ovulating.

Also check, Importance of rest and night sleep

CONNECTION BETWEEN LATE OVULATION AND CONCEPTION:

Ovulation and conceive are very much related. Late ovulation can affect fertility in many ways including difficulty in predicting menstrual cycle. You may also have problems in ovulation and conceive and require many more efforts.

Apart from that, late ovulation makes it difficult to track the menstrual cycle. Undeveloped eggs could be discharged and not implant in the uterus. The hormone levels may become out of balance as a result of eggs that mature late. The sperm may need to fertilise the egg for a longer period of time because ovulation may occur on day 20 or later.

What is PCOS?

The term “PCOS” refers to a prevalent hormonal condition in which there is an imbalance in female sex hormones. An abnormally high level of androgens is produced by a woman’s ovaries and adrenal glands in PCOS. Ovulation is impacted by the hormonal imbalance brought on by PCOS. High concentrations of these hormones prevent ovarian follicle growth and egg release during ovulation. Neither ovulation nor pregnancy can take place in the absence of a developed egg.  As a result, cysts—fluid-filled sacs—can form inside the ovaries. It’s linked to acne, abnormal hair growth on the face or body, and insulin resistance. This makes it very challenging to get pregnant.

Also, Check: Foods to improve female egg quality

Causes of PCOS:
  • Genetic factors: You have a very high probability of getting PCOS if your mother, sister, or aunt had.
  • High level of testosterone: Women who have high testosterone levels may find it difficult to ovulate and acne, excessive hair growth are two side effects of high androgen levels
  • High Insulin: Excess insulin raises testosterone production, which contributes to some PCOS symptoms like hirsutism (excessive hair growth in the face, chest and back in a male-like pattern) and ultimately results in Insulin resistance
  • Obesity/ Overweight – High level of insulin leads to weight gain which leads to fertility-related issues

Also, Check: Foods that help for hormonal hairfall

Symptoms:
  • Irregular periods (oligomenorrhea)
  • Absence of periods (amenorrhea)
  • Abnormal hair growth on the face, chest, or back
  • Oily skin/ severe acne
  • Weight gain or difficulty in losing weight
  • Thinning hair on the scalp
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Increase in the size of the ovaries
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Increased skin tags
  • Dark skin patches, particularly on the neck, groin, or underneath the breasts

Also, Check: PCOS and Gut health – how it is connected

How does PCOS affect fertility?

The key factor in infertility in women with PCOS is typically ovulation issues. A rise in testosterone production or immaturity of follicles on the ovaries may prevent ovulation. Even if ovulation takes place, a hormonal imbalance may prevent the uterine lining from appropriately developing so that the mature egg can be implanted. Women with PCOS may experience irregular periods and ovulation. Having unpredictable menstrual cycles might also make it challenging to get pregnant.

Also, Check: Female infertility – causes and home remedies

How does PCOS affect pregnancy?

Women with PCOS have a much higher risk of complications during pregnancy. The following are some complications that can arise during pregnancy if PCOS is prevalent:

  • Gestational diabetes
  • Premature delivery
  • High blood pressure during pregnancy
  • Cesarean section (c-section)
  • Baby being heavy (macrosomia)
  • High risk of the baby being in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)

Also, Check: 9 effective foods for excessive bleeding

Other Complications related to PCOS

  • Metabolic Syndromes – High cholesterol levels, High blood pressure, Heart disease, Diabetes
  • Effect on mental Health – Depression and anxiety, Poor body self-image

Hair fall after Covid-19? Stop it now!!

Are you experiencing significant hair loss, and does your hair appear thinner on your head? Do you notice that there are more hairs stuck in your pillows, bathroom drain, or hairbrush? Have you recently encountered COVID? Are you concerned that you will lose your hair permanently? The chances are that these are the signs of transient hair loss brought on by stressful situations encountered during COVID. So, don’t be alarmed; by including specific nutrients and foods that improve hair health, various sorts of hair falls can be prevented. Continue reading to know more about the causes, and hair fall remedies, strategies for managing hair loss due to COVID-19.

WHATSAPP for concerns like Speech Delay, Low Weight, Frequent Illness, Hyperactivity, Low Concentration, Weak Eyesight, Improper Sleep, Pigmentation, Pores, Face Marks, Fine Lines, Lactation etc.

Let’s understand the normal process of hair fall:

Hair growth includes 3 stages:

  • Anagen – Growth phase
  • Catagen – Transition phase
  • Telogen – Resting or Shedding phase

People typically lose between 100 and 150 hairs per day. Every hair on your head is at a distinct phase at any given time. On our scalp, approximately 90% of the hairs are in the anagen phase of growth and only 10% are in the resting phase. Our hairs gradually shed from their follicles at the end of telogen to be replaced by new, long anagen hairs.

Also, Check: Reason for hair fall in kids

Scientific reasons for hair fall after COVID :

Telogen effluvium, which causes all hairs to enter a resting phase followed by shedding, can be caused by stress. This is due to an increase in cortisol level which influences the hair to move to the resting phase.  Additionally, this also occurs after having surgery, pregnancy, or losing a lot of weight quickly since the body perceives these as stressful situations.

A stressful event, like a COVID-19 infection, can cause our bodies to transfer a higher percentage of growing anagen hairs into the dormant telogen state than usual. Because patients deal with both the extra stress that COVID-19 places on the body and the potential mental anxiety that can follow a diagnosis, 50 per cent of hair is shedding and resting, which is significantly greater than usual; this is in contrast to the typical 10 per cent of hair that is in this phase.

Also, Check Foods for post-partum hair loss

COVID Hair fall pattern

Telogen effluvium is a form of hair shedding that is abrupt, severe, and sudden; it doesn’t happen gradually or subtly. It occurs about three months after the triggering event, not at the same time.

The hair fall follows a certain pattern:

WHAT CAUSES INFERTILITY ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA?

The Ayurvedic theory emphasises that infertility develops when the “shukra dhatu” does not receive the necessary nutrients. Poor digestion, an unbalanced diet, or impurities in the body that block reproductive pathways are some of the potential causes. Infertility may be due to:

1. Food choices:

Extra spicy food raises “pitta” and hinders the production of “shukra dhatu,” which delays conception.

2. Subsiding sexual urges:

Long-term suppression or control of sexual desires can result in “veerya-avarodha,” or restriction of semen, which lowers libido.

3. More than usual indulgence in intercourse:

This, in accordance with Ayurveda, causes the “shukra kshaya” (reduction of the “shukra dhatu”) to decline and can result in “klehya,” or impotence.

4. Low quality of reproductive tissue:

The female reproductive tissues are referred to as “artava dhatu”. Women may have infertility if the quality or quantity of this is insufficient.

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT FOR FERTILITY/REMEDIES FOR INFERTILITY

Ayurvedic treatment for fertility involves using natural ways and herbs to treat infertility. They include:

1. Modification in the diet:

Eating whole foods gives the body all the nutrients it needs for wellness, in addition to the fibres that affect the body’s hormone balances. Fertility is destroyed by foods like canned goods, excessive starch, antibiotic- and hormone-filled meat and milk, and processed carbs.

Also check, Importance of balanced diet for kids

2. Reducing intake of spices:

Artava Dhatu, and shukra dhatu according to Ayurveda, need a chilly environment to encourage fertility. Therefore, consuming too much spicy food can interfere with the process and prevent the ovum and sperm growth. Too-hot foods can reduce the quality of ovum and sperm.

3. Switch to loose clothes:

The generation of sperm is significantly influenced by temperature. In a perfect world, the body temperature would be low. When someone wears tight underwear or pants, the cloth holds the body heat and doesn’t release it, which causes the scrotal sac to become warmer than it should be. The sperm count suffers as a result.

4. Quit bad habits:

Quitting harmful habits like smoking, drinking, or using any other drugs can improve the chances of conception.

5. Banyan tree bark:

The most effective ayurvedic treatment for fertility is the ingestion of dried banyan tree bark powder combined with sugar, according to many specialists.

(Co-Authored by Swati)

Swati, the Mother of 5 years old Lishika, explains the journey of her daughter’s growth and nutrition. Check out the full article below.

Lishika was born six months early and was preterm. There was a worry that development and growth would be delayed. The doctor urged me to avoid using any growth-related medications for height and weight and instead go for natural methods to encourage her growth. She used to happily eat all fruits and veggies, but she was a little behind in learning and started walking a bit lately. Her social behaviour has also been impacted by the lockdown period.

I always rely more on Ayurveda and organic, healthy foods than on unnatural or preservative-laden commercial health foods. It’s crucial to establish a positive relationship with food. Try to describe the positive impacts of good food on the body and the negative effects of junk food. Appreciate them for making the effort to eat a healthy meal.

Even though the parents are of good height, children may be shorter due to poor diet and care. In order to avoid suffering later on and to reduce the possibility of delayed height growth in girls after puberty, it is crucial to take care of children’s nutrition in the early years of age.
